BRUCE DAVIS, Ph.D
“The True Need is in the Heart”
As a graduate student, Bruce Davis met and became an apprentice to a remarkable shaman who had the gift of entering into - and teaching - people in their dreams. By the time the young psychologist graduated, he no longer had faith in his profession, believing instead, “Psychology without spirituality is incomplete.”
In 1975 he wrote the book The Magical Child Within You, said to be the first book written on trusting and nurturing the inner child. It has been published in over nine languages with over 150,000 copies in print. A couple years later he coauthored another best-selling book, Hugs & Kisses, about loving life, which has been a theme of his work ever since. He has authored four other books as well, and is a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post.
Since 1983 he has led interfaith spiritual retreats in many parts of Europe, Asia and the U.S., taking people to sacred places in order discover the sacred place within themselves. “Living with the other side is natural in other cultures,” he notes. “In our intellectual culture, we’re so separate from our hearts and the Other Side.”
He worked with psychic healers in the Philippines, and for 12 years he and his wife Ruth lived in Assisi, founding the Assisi Retreat Center, which has been honored as one of the world’s top ten meditation centers by both CNN and Travel & Leisure Magazine. Returning to California, he established Silent Stay Retreats in Napa, CA, which features yearly sacred pilgrimages to Bali, Indonesia.
“Silence can pick us up and carry us to incredible destinations if we allow it,” Bruce says. “And silence can be like a safe harbor where we drop anchor down underneath our desires and challenges to a place of unequaled being and presence.”
Come meet Bruce, and bring your questions! East Bay IANDS monthly meetings are open all. We provide a respectful place to discuss opinions and experiences. NO DOGMA! Please wear slippers into the meeting room. You are encouraged to bring refreshments to share!
