Gar Alperovitz is a political economist and historian. He is the author of What Then Must We Do: Ten Ways to Democratize the Economy, The Next American Revolution, and America Beyond Capitalism. He is the co-founder of the Democracy Collaborative and is a former fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University. He has taught at Harvard's Institute of Politics and is professor emeritus at the University of Maryland. He has also been a guest scholar at the Brookings Institute and a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies. He has testified before Congressional committees and has served as a legislative director in both houses of Congress and as a special assistant in the State Department. Alperovitz is also a strong supporter of worker-owned cooperatives as a democratic economic model.
