GLIDE is pleased to welcome back, in person, the annual GLIDE Legacy Galaand celebrate the GLIDE Legacy Awards on Saturday, August 14 at Terra Gallery in San Francisco. A combination in-person event and virtual gathering, the 12th GLIDE Legacy Gala will bring supporters back together for an evening to reconnect and recommit to creating positive change to the community. Supporters will have their choice of attending in person (under current COVID-19 protocols) or streaming the event at home.
The evening’s event features live performances, additional entertainment, delicious refreshments, and the GLIDE Legacy Awards ceremony honoring individuals for their impact in their communities, innovative leadership, and passion with the Reverend Cecil Williams Legacy Award and the Janice Mirikitani Legacy Award. The awards honor the next generation of activists and social change entrepreneurs who embody GLIDE’s legacy of unconditional love and radical inclusion. Last year’s awardees were musician/activist Michael Franti and poet, activist and changemaker Amanda Gorman who won the hearts of American at the presidential inauguration earlier this year. The evening will include a panel discussion with the awardees, exploring how we can adapt to growing inequalities in a post-pandemic landscape through community building and the empowerment and elevation of marginalized groups.
"GLIDE continues to build on nearly 60 years of activism, adapting and innovating, with evidenced-based solutions to address society’s most pressing issues—inequality, poverty, homelessness, and systemic racism," said GLIDE President and CEO Karen Hanrahan. "We are working directly with those who are suffering, expanding our reach across the city, and changing hearts and minds to build empathy and transform lives. Join us to help more individuals and families move off the streets, into self-sufficiency and thrive for good.
The GLIDE Legacy Committee is striving to raise $100,000 through ticket sales, crowdfunding and lead-up events that will support GLIDE's critical work in San Francisco, which includes providing thousands of free meals a week, harm reduction outreach, behavioral health counseling, rental assistance, spiritual community, and more.
